Environmental operations

The Harbour Authority works hard to maintain a clean, safe and attractive environment. Large amounts of litter and debris are washed down the rivers, particularly during periods of high rainfall. This is cleared on an almost daily basis, with approximately 500 tonnes of rubbish removed from the Bay per annum.

Staff are trained to deal with any minor pollution incidents and arrangements are in place with specialist contractors should any major pollution issues arise. Measures are also undertaken to reduce nuisance from pests, such as rodents and flying insects.

Planting and maintenance of public open spaces are carried out in partnership with Cardiff Council’s Parks Services department.
